His doctoral research on the role of detrital mass in soil nutrient restoration in regrowing forests has led to significant conclusions about the least studied belowground components i.e., fine roots and microbial biomass. These components have a greater nutrient immobilization potential and rapid biomass turnover and thus contribute significantly to the organic matter and nutrient dynamics in the degraded and/or regenerating forest ecosystems.

Prof. Mishra has a specialization in Petrology and Geochemistry. She worked as Lecturer at the School of Earth Sciences, Mizoram University, Aizwal for 4 months in 2004. Thereafter Prof. Mishra joined the Department of Geology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi as an Assistant Professor in Geology. She joined as Associate Professor in Geology at the School of Sciences, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi in 2010. Prof. Meenal Mishra has about 29 years of teaching and research experience which includes more than 11 years’ of experience in Distance Education. Dr Mishra has delivered several Interactive Radio Counselling (IRC) and Teleconferencing (TC) programmes.
